DCAGS June Meeting

Heather Fleener from H+H Heritage Conservation will give a presentation and demonstration of historic masonry unit conservation. We will look at the rational behind conservation vs preservation of various historic masonry units specifically, gravestones. We will look at risk assessment, condition assessment and conservation and preservation planning as well as cleaning historic gravestones. Historic gravestones come in a variety of shapes, sizes and materials: limestone, marble, granite, slate and sandstone. Often these historic masonry units are exposed to various environmental elements as well as human impacts that force us to consider conserving our heritage so that our descendants can have a lasting record when others are no longer left to remember them.
